“Stairway to Heaven” Quilt Top

After many months of very little quilting, I’ve been cranking out quite a few quilt tops that have been floating around in my head. This is one of them. I’m so happy to be back to quilting too! This one is called Stairway to Heaven. Now, I don’t even know if I fully believe in…

Melissa - July 23, 2011 - 9:24 pm

I absolutely LOVE it!! I love how colorful and linear it is. Makes my creative heart sing. :)

I saw something vaguely similar in one of the Gee’s Bend books, and sketched out a plan for one of my own. I love how your steps are so skinny!

Pippa - July 20, 2011 - 5:08 am

Oh my gosh. LOVE this!

Val Campbell - July 19, 2011 - 8:56 pm

Latifah,

Hollie - July 19, 2011 - 12:12 pm

Latifah, it’s stunning! I’m so sorry I missed the last meeting and didn’t see this in person.

Latifah - July 13, 2011 - 11:40 am

Thanks Jenny, Jan, and Vicki!

Cheryl – you totally have to make your version as well. I hate when I have an idea and someone else does it first though! But, I’d love to see what you would have done with it.

Lynette, it was a big log cabin! :-) Half way through it I started to count down the number of strips till the end. Thankfully I included some of my favorite “have to include” colors towards the end.

Thanks Kenda! I can’t wait to see it quilted too! ;-)

Jenny Pedigo - July 13, 2011 - 10:29 am

So interesting!! Love it!

Cinzia Allocca - July 13, 2011 - 5:42 am

this is AMAZING! so well done. i love the rectangle as a starter point as opposed to the traditional square! Can’t wait to see it finished.. and i love your description of it, too.
I have Susan’s book and I love it. The history is fascinating. Your fresh modern take on log cabin should be included in volume 2!

jan - July 12, 2011 - 9:08 pm

Very nice!

Cheryl Arkison - July 12, 2011 - 8:52 pm

No way! I’ve had the fabric pulled for a square version of the same concept for months now. Pretty sure yours is cooler than mine could be.

Vicki W - July 12, 2011 - 3:14 pm

That is sooooo cool!

Lynette - July 12, 2011 - 2:08 pm

Wow – That’s a BIG log cabin. :D Nice job mitering all those color strips on the one corner

kendascrafts - July 12, 2011 - 1:53 pm

“Perfect Puddles” Modern Circle Sampler Quilt

Guess what mom? I’m a teacher now! I’m teaching my “Perfect Puddles” Modern Circle Sampler Quilt at Sew Modern in Los Angeles. My mother always said that I’d be a teacher – I just don’t think she thought I would teach quilting. So fun! We had our first session this past Saturday but, if you’re…

Lynette - June 23, 2011 - 8:24 am

Hi! I just stumbled onto your blog, and this quilt is FANTASTIC! I can easily see why folks would want you to teach it. :D

I love it! The back might very well be my favorite part. :)
As a student who will never graduate from quilting school, I really appreciate that you designed the quilting to use the walking foot.
It’s adorable.

jan - June 14, 2011 - 7:02 pm

What a great project! The white looks like a bezel setting for a clock face! Really fun twist on a sampler!

Leanne - June 14, 2011 - 5:07 pm

This is a wonderful quilt! I love how you put so many different techniques into one quilt, including all those circles!

Adrianne (Little Bluebell) - June 14, 2011 - 4:57 pm

Funky's Mama - June 14, 2011 - 2:25 pm

mn2nm - June 14, 2011 - 1:56 pm

Mini Quilts – Jagged Little Pill

This is a project that was finished last year – like six months ago – that I never posted! It was made for the LAMQG Mini Quilt Swap. It was a random swap so everyone that brought a mini quilt pulled a wrapped package from the table. My little quilt was pulled by Kelli and…

Harold the Bear and the B-Boy Quilt

As some of you know, I’m a little obsessed with giving gift “sets” for baby gifts. Generally the set will be a quilt and bibs, burps and a ball. But, this time it is a bear. And I actually saw the pattern for the bear first and then whipped up this quick quilt to go…

Lori - January 29, 2011 - 2:35 pm

That quilt is beautiful! I just bought a fat quarter pack of Michael Miller gray and blue….this will be a perfect quilt for me to make!

Latifah - January 24, 2011 - 10:41 am

Haha! I’ll try to make this explanation quick Alison. My sole motivation for quilting (or any sewing) is to see the creative visions in my head come to life. Sewing a pattern is boring to me. And, unless it is something that I REALLY want to see made or unless I am creative with the changes I make to patterns to make them “my own:, I generally don’t like the process of just sewing from a pattern. Believe me, “pains” is not an understatement here. Just one of my quirks that I have come to embrace! Haha!

Alison Marie - January 22, 2011 - 12:22 pm

It pains you to use patterns?!!! I think I get what you mean, but tell me more….

Patty Simmons - January 22, 2011 - 7:50 am

Your baby gifts must be quite coveted! You are so ingenious!

Victoria - January 10, 2011 - 6:18 pm

Serious cute you are, Harold. ;-)

Marianne Haak - January 10, 2011 - 6:13 pm

I absolutely love the baby quilt and of course Harold is adorable too. I love the black binding with the white…so sharp!!!!!

DianeY - January 10, 2011 - 11:54 am

I’m not sure which I love better! Beautiful quilt & truly huggable Harold!
